92. (Malaysia & Singapore) Japanese 5S Training

24 Aug 2010

Dear Sir,

We have been conducting the Japanese 5S Housekeeping Training since 1997.

Okay, as an example: How is Your 5S Housekeeping?

  • 1. All personnel at their respective workplaces or offices have contributed in red-tagging unnecessary items.
  • 2. All temporary repairs (like tape and steel wire) are fixed permanently.
  • 3. All our tools and machines are placed on designated places or stored in tool racks. Appointed personnel are given responsibilities to ensure that tools and devices are complete and in good condition.
  • 4. It is easy to keep the workplace clean and free from any clutter. We make sure that no trash or loose items are scattered on the floor. All surfaces are painted and access to cleaning is excellent.
  • 5. All routines for cleaning are scheduled with a system that makes it possible to see what should be done, who is responsible and when it was last carried out.
  • 6. There is a collectively agreed cleanliness level of how sanitary the workplace should be. One example is by using pictures as reference.
  • 7. All our instructions and procedures are regularly updated. These are published on designated billboards, signage areas that are visible to all personnel.
  • 8. We work actively to maintain 5S by employing auditing tools and other systems.
  • 9. All employees are trained in 5S.
  • 10. All levels of staff are committed to 5S.
  • 11. We have a top-management policy on how to handle 5S issues.

Staff Suggestion Scheme (SSS)

Operating a successful Staff Suggestion Scheme is not easy!

Many organisations embark on a Staff Suggestion Scheme (SSS) with the hope of developing what Peter Drucker calls, “a thinking workforce”. But to their disappointment, what they often achieve is more of a complaining workforce. Instead of suggestions that help to solve problems and raise quality and productivity, much of what they receive are feedback which merely point out the problems without offering practical solutions. Rarely do they receive suggestions that are well thought-through and carefully written.

Is your company in such a predicament? YES? NO?

77. (USA) Networking for you to get Opportunities

Date: 8/11/2010

Subject: How are you doing?

Dear friends,

I've been thinking that .... is helpful for networking when you need a job, but since I'm doing fine where I'm at why don't I pay it forward instead.

So here's the deal, I'm not a professional headhunter but I do keep an eye out for jobs that would fit friends well and have helped a few find some nice jobs. I'm not looking for anything in return... it's just good to help a friend. I visit more than a few dozen client companies each year and speak with at least four or five new cleints each month whom I don't even meet... but they seem to trust me anyway. (go figure) Some are Fortune 500, others mom & pop.

If you are looking for something new drop me a message and I'll think of you next time I see an opportunity.

ps. Always feel free just to catch up too!

Take care, DJ
